Hace 40 a\u00f1os la familia Letort, actual due\u00f1a del hotel, adquiere la hist\u00f3rica casa de la Hacienda San Jos\u00e9 de Puembo. Dicha construcci\u00f3n adolec\u00eda de graves problemas de mantenimiento y fallas estructurales en sus paredes de adobe, pisos de madera y techos de teja por lo que en 1990 el Doctor Mauricio Letort (eminente otorrinolaring\u00f3logo de Quito) emprende una profunda remodelaci\u00f3n para preservar los atributos originales de la estructura se\u00f1orial de la casa. Se conservan las paredes de adobe, pero se las apuntala y refuerza con concreto; los pisos de madera antiguos se los cambia por materiales m\u00e1s resistentes y las columnas originales de capul\u00ed son desarmadas y sometidas a un proceso qu\u00edmico que garantiza su preservaci\u00f3n a trav\u00e9s de los a\u00f1os.

Los salones originales de la casa se transforman en el actual comedor Le Gourmet. El troje, en el que se acumulaban las cosechas de ma\u00edz, se convierte en el funcional Sal\u00f3n Auditorium mientras que las antiguas habitaciones de la casa (fuente de inspiraci\u00f3n del reconocido poeta Alfredo Gangotena) pasan a ser el Sal\u00f3n de los Mapas. El comedor principal de la antigua casona es ahora la cafeter\u00eda y el actual parqueadero est\u00e1 ubicado en lo que constitu\u00edan los establos, los gallineros y las chancheras.

El concepto original del negocio fue una casa de retiro y prestaci\u00f3n de servicios geri\u00e1tricos, pero a los pocos meses de terminar la obra, la gran mayor\u00eda de potenciales clientes fallecen por lo que se plantean nuevas alternativas. De una reuni\u00f3n mantenida entre el Doctor Mauricio Letort y el presidente del Banco del Pichincha de ese entonces, el Dr. Acosta, surge la posibilidad de arrendar las instalaciones del hotel para un seminario del banco. Es este hecho singular el que marca el inicio del nuevo emprendimiento Hoster\u00eda San Jos\u00e9 como un moderno Centro de Convenciones con Alojamiento.
Gracias a la pol\u00edtica empresarial de reinvertir el 100% de las utilidades en el negocio se logra construir y ampliar las siguientes \u00e1reas:<\/p>


\u2022 7 salones de reuniones empresariales.
\u2022 2 piscinas temperadas (campestre y del SPA)
\u2022 32 habitaciones coloniales y 40 habitaciones superior.
\u2022 3 casas de campo y 4 suites campestres.
\u2022 El SPA San Jos\u00e9.
\u2022 Gimnasio completamente equipado
\u2022 Hermosos jardines perfectamente preservados con una variedad de \u00e1rboles legendarios.
\u2022 Mini-granja con animales dom\u00e9sticos.<\/p>


El hotel, ubicado en el c\u00e1lido valle de Puembo, ha tenido varios nombres a lo largo de su historia. En el a\u00f1o 2012, el nombre original del hotel (Hoster\u00eda San Jos\u00e9) fue modificado a Garden Hotel San Jos\u00e9 a ra\u00edz de una regulaci\u00f3n de suelo establecida por la alcald\u00eda de ese entonces. Posteriormente, en el a\u00f1o 2015 se encuentran documentos hist\u00f3ricos que hacen referencia a la asociaci\u00f3n de San Jos\u00e9 con Puembo como nombre de uso com\u00fan por lo cual se cambia a San Jos\u00e9 de Puembo. Finalmente, en el a\u00f1o 2016, luego del cumplimiento de exigentes est\u00e1ndares internacionales, se llega a un trascendental acuerdo de franquicia con la empresa hotelera americana CHOICE HOTELS INTERNATIONAL INC (reconocida por sus marcas de hoteles Confort Suites, Confort Inn, Quality Inn, Clarion, entre otras). En dicho convenio se establece que la marca internacional que mejor describe las instalaciones y servicios del hotel es ASCEND HOTEL COLLECTION. Esta marca se otorga a aquellos hoteles que ofrecen una experiencia individualizada al visitante pues le permite saborear la cultura e historia local de forma \u00fanica.<\/p>

Almost 40 years ago the Letort family, current owner of the hotel, acquires the historic house of the Hacienda San Jos\u00e9 de Puembo. However, the building had some serious maintenance issues and structural flaws in its adobe walls, wooden floors and tile roofs, so in 1990 Dr. Mauricio Letort (an eminent otolaryngologist from Quito) decided to undertake a restoration project to preserve the original attributes of the house. The adobe walls were kept and reinforced with iron rods and concrete; the antique wooden floors were changed to local and more resistant materials and the original columns made with \u201ccapul\u00ed wood\u201d were taken apart and subjected to a chemical process to ensure their preservation through the years.<\/em><\/p>

The original living room was transformed into the current dining room Le Gourmet. The granary, where maize crops were accumulated, became the functional Auditorium Hall, while the old rooms of the house, where the renowned poet Alfredo Gangotena got his inspiration, became the Hall of the Maps. The main dining room of the old house is now the cafeteria and the current parking lot is located in what were the stables and the chicken coops.<\/em><\/p>

The original conception of the business was to become a retirement home. However, a few months before finishing the restoration work, the vast majority of potential customers died so it was necessary to search for a new possible line of business. In a meeting between Dr. Mauricio Letort and the president of Banco del Pichincha at that time, Dr. Acosta, mentioned the possibility of renting the facilities for a seminar. This moment marks the beginning of the new venture \u201cHoster\u00eda San Jose\u201d as a modern convention center with accommodation facilities.<\/em>
The venture started with policy of 100% reinvestment of the profits which granted new buildings and infrastructure growth. The hotel now has:<\/em>

\u2022 32 classic rooms and 40 superior rooms.<\/em>
\u2022 3 cottages and 4 Jr Suites.<\/em>

\u2022 A fully equipped Gym<\/em>
\u2022 Beautiful gardens perfectly preserved with ancient trees.<\/em>
\u2022 Mini-farm with animals.<\/em><\/p>

The hotel, located in the warm valley of Puembo, has had several names throughout its history. In the year 2012, the original name of the hotel (Hosteria San Jose) was modified to Garden Hotel San Jose following a land usage regulation established by the mayor of that time. Later, in 2015, historical documents were found that refer to the association of San Jos\u00e9 with Puembo as the usual name, so it was decided to be rename to San Jose Puembo. Finally, in the year 2016, after a complying to stringent international standards, the hotel reached a franchise agreement with the American hotel company CHOICE HOTELS INTERNATIONAL INC (known for its hotel brands Comfort Suites, Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, Clarion, among others). That agreement states that the international brand that best describes the facilities of our hotel is ASCEND HOTEL COLLECTION.
